Every person deserves to feel reassured and confident about their appearance. As a result, they can enjoy smoother, more radiant and youthful-looking skin.
We are delighted to be able to offer our patients the following non-surgical facial cosmetic services.
One of the biggest concerns that many patients have about the effect that the aging process will have on their appearance is sagging skin. Unfortunately, as we get older our bodies’ natural production of collagen and elastin, two key building blocks that are responsible for keeping our skin supple, tight and smooth, begins to deteriorate. As a result, our skin becomes drier and less elastic, enabling it to sag. When this happens, it can look like we have lost volume in our cheeks, our face may look less defined as skin begins to sag below the jaw, and deep lines and folds on the lower part of the face can form. All of these changes can make us look older than we really are.
Fortunately, dermal fillers can address these issues. There are multiple types of dermal filler available, but all are designed to add volume to the areas where they are administered, causing the skin to become tighter smoother and more youthful in appearance.
Most dermal fillers are created from naturally-occurring substances like Hyaluronic Acid or HA. They usually take the form of a gel which is then injected into the targeted areas of your lower face using an ultra-fine needle. Very small amounts of filler are administered through the injection, and the area is then gentle massaged by your cosmetic specialist, which helps ensure even distribution of the gel. Although many patients are concerned about discomfort during an injectable cosmetic procedure such as receiving dermal fillers, most patients report little or no discomfort. A topical anesthetic can be applied if necessary. Better still, there is no downtime and while you may feel a little sore, there are no real after-effects to be concerned about.
The results of dermal fillers are usually temporary, and exactly how long your improved appearance will last can vary between patients
Most people have heard of Botox and know that it is a popular cosmetic procedure that is normally used to help reverse the effects of aging. Botox is another type of injectable and is administered in the same way as dermal fillers. However, it works in a very different way. Botox is actually a derivative of a toxin that can paralyze the muscles underneath the skin so that they can no longer contract. Subsequently, the skin attached to these muscles can no longer form creases and wrinkles that make us look older than we really are.
Again, Botox is a fairly short, simple procedure that can be performed in a lunch break and requires no downtime. A topical anesthetic can be used if necessary, and there may be some small needle marks which fade within a few hours.
The results of Botox typically last for up to 6 months, but the exact longevity can vary between patients.
You could be forgiven for not having heard of microneedling, which is a fairly new and unknown form of non-surgical facial cosmetic treatment. Just like injectables, it is designed to address the appearance of facial skin so that the patient can enjoy a younger, refreshed look after treatment. However, microneedling is a very different process.
Microneedling involves puncturing the skin with hundreds of pin-sized holes using a hand-held device called a dermaplan or derma-roller. Although this sounds painful, the patient is given an anesthetic ahead of the procedure so that you are not in any discomfort. The reason for the puncturing is to create tiny wounds that prompt the skin to produce more collagen and elastin to heal itself. The creation of these substances helps skin to look firmer, softer and more youthful and patients can benefit from the reduced appearance of lines, wrinkles, discoloration, and scarring. Some cosmetic specialists also apply special anti-aging products after the holes have been created as they allow for easy absorption and can boost the overall effects of the treatment.
As you might expect, patients tend to experience some swelling and soreness in the days after their procedure, and bleeding is not uncommon. Your face may also appear redder than usual and you will not be able to wear any cosmetics for a few days. The results of microneedling are only temporary and most patients opt for several treatments each year in order to sustain their refreshed and rejuvenated appearance.
PRP or Platelet-Rich-Plasma injections are an innovative new non-surgical cosmetic procedure that is now being used for facial rejuvenation. It is also known as stem cell therapy and has been applied in many medical fields prior to its use in cosmetic procedures. It is designed to use the patient’s own plasma to support and stimulate natural healing, renewal and cellular growth. As a result, patients who opt for PRP can benefit from:
- A reduction in fine lines and wrinkles
- Enhancement in the tone and texture of facial skin
- Tightening of the skin and improvement in skin laxity
- Improvement in the appearance of dry, crepey skin
- Generation of new collagen which causes the skin to become firmer, tighter and smoother
Like other injectables, there is minimal downtime associated with PRP injections and most patients will see an immediate improvement in the appearance of their skin. Results typically last up to around 4 months before further treatment is required.
